Planning and going through an itinerary in a city like Kuala Lumpur can be an intimidating task. It is after all a big metropolis with countless places to stop off and discover. Although you will not be able to cover everything in a short itinerary, you can always explore at your own pace and visit attractions that you want. This is where taking the Hop On Hop Off bus comes in as a great option.
Hop on hop off means you can jump on and off the bus at stops as many times as you want within a given time period for a fixed cost. It is available in many big cities including Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia. In Kuala Lumpur, it is known as the KL Hop On Hop Off Bus. It has 23 designated stops right by 70 of KL's most popular attractions.
With the bus, you only need to get off at the stops you prefer and skip some. You can also stay on board the double-decker the entire time to get a peek at all the sights in the city. It really is a flexible and hassle-free way to get from place to place within KL.
Ticket Information
There are two types of tickets to suit different itineraries - the Standard 24 Hours to see the city in a day or the Standard 48 Hours for lengthier excursions. Rates in MYR are as follows.
Children below 5 years old are free of charge. Foreigners who purchase online can get a discount of MYR5 per ticket.
The tickets can be purchased in the bus, through the website, authorized agents, authorized hotels, and the Hop On Hop Off counters in Bukit Bintang, Malaysian Tourism Centre, KL Sentral, and KLCC.
The service operates daily from 9:00AM to 8:00PM with last pick up at 7:00PM. The buses arrive in 20 to 30-minute intervals.
Ticket validity start from the time and date of first boarding. So if you hop on at 3:00PM, the ticket will expire at 3:00PM the next day (for 24 Hour Ticket) or the day after next (for 48 Hour Ticket).

Final Tips
Here are additional tips to help you make the most of your Hop On Hop Off tour:
- Get a copy of the KL Hop On Hop Off Guide to guide you through the loop. Highlight the places you want to see so you'll know when to hop off.
- At certain times of the day, the bus can get extremely crowded. You may either have to stand or sit separately if you are in a group. Just wait for the crowd to clear as there is always someone who will get off in the next stops.
- During rush hours, wait time can go beyond 30 minutes. Make sure to bring an umbrella in case it rains as some of the stops don't provide shelter.
- Last pick up of the bus is at 7:00PM in select stops. This last bus will end its service in Stop 23 near the Petronas Twin Towers. If your hotel is located near other stops, you may have to take another mode of transportation to go back to your hotel.
- Some attractions require an admission ticket. These are not included in the Hop On Hop Off ticket.
