Policarpio Street Switches On Its Christmas Lights

You know Christmas is coming when the usually quiet Policarpio Street in Mandaluyong is transformed by sparkling lights and impressive display of decorations into a Yuletide attraction. It's the twenty-second year the houses along the 150-meter road has been decorated for the festive season. And just like every year, it is expected to attract the Christmas-lovers from nearby barangays and even from other cities within the metro.

Here are snapshots of the Pasko Pasko sa Policarpio.

Snagging the Lowest Fare Deals

A question we are often asked is, how do we get to snag cheap flights?

A lot of tips have already been shared online. We will share some of the tips we usually follow but we also believe in having a fair amount of luck to snag the best deals.
Red Hot Sale
Right at this moment, there is an ongoing flight sale with AirAsia dubbed as their year-end Red Hot Sale. They are offering 5 million promo seats across their network. We just booked a round trip flight from Manila to Kalibo for six (6) persons for 96 BIG Points and PHP2,491.44 top up amount. That is only 8 BIG Points and PHP207. 62 per person. It's really a good deal!
Flight sales are real!

Tips on how we snagged this really low fare:
1. Always be on the look out for flight sales. If you can, subscribe to the email newsletters and/or follow the social media accounts of different airlines to be updated on upcoming promotions.

2. Check if there is an exclusive window for members of the airline's loyalty program. If you are, good news as it is a great opportunity for you to get ahead of the public and snag deals at your most preferred dates. For the ongoing Red Hot Sale, there is a 24-hour priority booking window for members from November 12, 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM. For non-members, public sale starts on November 13, 12:00 AM.

3. Always book on the first day - in the wee hours of the date of the sale. The key is to always book early and to never give up. We were able to book at 1:46 AM after trying so many times to get into the booking system. The first hour is usually very busy and a lot of times, based on experience, the system would crash due to the overwhelming number of people accessing the site at the same time. Just be patient.

4. Be flexible. We considered other dates. And be persistent enough to go through different dates to check for seat availability especially if you are traveling in a big group.

5. Know the promo details and booking channels beforehand. Most flight sales are booked through a unique promo link. For the ongoing Red Hot Sale, the promo details are a bit confusing but the priority booking for members is only through point redemption plus cash out via the BIG Loyalty mobile application. The public sale on November 13 can be booked through this link: http://bit.ly/RedHotSaleBeReadyForIt.

6. Know the full route listing to be able to plan what possible destinations you will check out. Here are some of the routes with promo seats starting from 0 points for the members-only booking window.
Flights from Kuala Lumpur and other Asian cities start at 0 points
while flights from Manila and Clark start at 8 points
The public sale will have flights with fares from as low as PHP16.00 all-in one way fare from Clark and PHP201.00 all-in one way fare from Manila.

7. Be decisive. We booked the flights quickly when we saw the availability. Sometimes you just have to chase and book that cheap fare.

8. Connect to a fast internet connection. This is really important as you are only given a few minutes to search and book your flights. Once your session time is up, you will have to redo everything from the beginning.

So we hope these tips will help you book those promo seats. Who knows, you might be in luck in snagging flights to your dream destinations.

But before your visit, check out some of these tips to help you maximize your day and find the fun as soon as you walk into the park.

Get There Early?

The usual advice given to get the most out of popular attractions and theme parks is to arrive early. Unless you bought the all-attraction pass, this advice does not apply to Manila Ocean Park. We arrived past noon but we were still able to enjoy and maximize our time in all the attractions we visited.

Here's our tip: As soon as you enter the park, grab a photo of the park map to know the locations of various attractions. Then ask for a snapshot of the show schedules and attraction hours so you can plan out your time inside.

Manila Ocean Park: Uncovering the World of Creepy Crawlies

Reptiles, amphibians, insects, and arachnids, also referred to as creepy crawlies, are often feared or ignored creatures. But for what they lack in adorableness, they make up for their survival skills. These creatures have been around for more than 300 million years and they thrive in almost every habitat known to man.

Going beyond the usual portrayal of crawlies as stuff of fears and nightmares, Manila Ocean Park's World of Creepy Crawlies celebrates the diversity, beauty, character, and peculiarity of these amazing creatures.

Through the exhibit, visitors will discover colorful and interesting specimens found in many parts of the world. The animals' enclosures are designed to mimic their natural habitat. The Dart Frogs, for example, live in enclosures with soil, foliage, plants, and tree branches, while the Turtles spend time swimming in their pools.
