With more than 20 rides and attractions spread across seven unique themed zones, Universal Studios Singapore (USS) has plenty of attractions to captivate every Juan. But before you visit, check out some of these tips to help you maximize your day and create an unforgettable experience.
The usual advice we get about visiting popular attractions is to arrive early. Is it a big deal for Universal Studios Singapore? Yes, definitely!
Being the only Hollywood movie theme park in Southeast Asia, USS sure packs in crowds. You'll be surprised that within an hour before its opening time, there are already queues outside the gates of the park. So it will be so much better to arrive early than to arrive late and get in line behind everyone else. Moreover, stand by times to the rides tend to get longer as the day goes by.
We suggest arriving an hour to 30 minutes before the park opens. By arriving early, you'll get the advantage of being one of the first people to step through the gates and beat the rush to the headliner attractions.
Buy Tickets Beforehand
Make sure to buy tickets ahead of your visit. You can buy tickets online via the Resorts World Sentosa website or through authorized ticket resellers. This may save you time and avoid long queues at the ticket counters. If you buy online, an electronic ticket will be sent to your email. You can scan it at the turnstiles to have direct entry to the park.
Updated ticket prices for non-Singapore residents are as follows:
If you're willing to spend some extra cash, you can purchase a separate ticket called the Universal Express Pass which will allow you to use the shorter Express Lanes at designated Universal Express attractions. This ticket though is good only for the date it was purchased, can only be used by one person and one time in each attraction.
We were able to take the not-to-be-missed attractions of Universal Studios Singapore without purchasing the Universal Express Pass. Read through to see our itinerary.
Get Information and Plan
If you're coming in early, you'll definitely want to take advantage and plan for the first few rides you want to hit as soon as the park opens. So the moment you enter the park, grab a park map to know the locations of various attractions and the daily snapshot to know the schedules of live shows and character meet and greet sessions. Check out as well the announcements outside the gate for the day's unavailable attractions.
Update: You may also download the USS mobile app to get these plus queue time information right at your fingertips.
Tour Like A Pro
Once you're inside USS, you need to decide which direction to take to cover the park. If you're one of the first people to step through the gates, we strongly suggest you take a counterclockwise direction and sprint immediately to the wildly immersive and fun Transformers: The Ride. This attraction draws sizeable crowds and is arguably the park's top draw. Lines build quickly after opening and waits can be more than two hours on busy days. When we employed this strategy, we were able to get on the ride without waiting. And since we enjoyed it so much, we decided to do a second round immediately after to avoid wasting time. True enough, the queue was already building up and we had to wait for another 15 minutes.
With our interest in Transformers: The Ride satisfied within just the first 30 minutes of park opening, we got to slow down and truly enjoy the remaining attractions of USS. Here's our itinerary which we customized based on the snapshot that day:
For this visit, Lights, Camera, Action! was unavailable. We opted out of Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure to avoid getting soaked. We also skipped the kiddie rides, Magic Potion Spin, Dino Soarin', and Accelerator.
Wear Good Shoes and Comfortable Clothes
Visits to theme parks can last for an entire day so dressing comfortably is one of the most practical and smartest things to do.
Wear a good pair of walking shoes because there will be a lot of walking, running, and standing inside the park. You will want a pair with a good amount of cushion and padding between your feet and the ground. You will also want something that's breathable and lightweight. These criteria will guarantee to keep you comfortable and with support for hours.
Wear comfortable and functional apparel. Avoid wearing white or very light colors as rain or water rides will leave your clothes completely see-through. Opt for shorts with strong pockets to help secure your phone, keys, and money.
Bring a backpack and pack an extra pair of socks and clothes just in case someone gets sick on the rides or for extremely hot and sweaty days. You can stash the backpack in all-day locker rentals to avoid carrying it around.
Take Breaks
Make sure to pace your visit. Take lunch and snack breaks. These breaks will be your time to recharge and rest from all the walking and waiting. There are various food options inside the park - Western, Southeast Asian, Japanese, and even vegetarian options.
If you don't want to lose time, you can have your lunch or snack breaks as a period to enjoy calmer attractions or live shows. This way you can have your stomach settle before continuing on with thrilling rides.
Have Fun
A visit to Universal Studios Singapore is exciting but it can be an overwhelming and exhausting experience. Whether you're there to meet the classic characters, enjoy the shows, or take the thrilling rides, remember that your visit is all about having fun. So simply enjoy, take lots of photos, and live in the moment.
We hope this short guide helps you maximize your time at USS. For more information about the park, visit their website here.
