Veraneante Resort: A Good Off-the-Grid Hideaway in Panglao

Often described as one of the best island destinations, Panglao is popular with travelers who are usually looking for a beach vacation. As such, there's no shortage of beautiful beachfront resorts from which to choose. However, some people may not automatically opt for a sand-centric property. Finding a good off-the-grid hideaway and staying off the beach has its advantages. You will pay a lot less. You will avoid getting stuck in a hectic tourist area. And you will definitely get that much-needed peace and quiet.

Veraneante Resort perfectly fits the bill for a good off-the-beaten-path hideaway. Take a look at our review and start planning your Panglao getaway.

Location
Veraneante Resort is located at Purok 5 of Barangay Looc in Panglao. It is situated next to a quiet residential neighborhood just a 3-minute drive from San Agustin Panglao Church in the Poblacion or the traditional center of the town of Panglao. It is a 10-minute drive from the famous Alona Beach where most resorts and restaurants are located. It is approximately an 11-minute drive from the New Bohol-Panglao International Airport and a 35-minute drive from the seaport of Tagbilaran.

Veraneante's location is perfect if you want to stay away from the madding crowds and nightlife of Alona Beach. However, the location may not be to your liking if you prefer exploring by foot. If you want to go out to eat or to enjoy the beach, you can take the resort's daily free shuttle service to Alona Beach at 5:00PM and back at 9:00PM

Reservation
Veraneante has its own website for reservation of rooms. It is also listed in online travel agencies Agoda.com and TravelBook.ph. Since the rooms were offered at low rates plus a discount coupon, we decided to book through TravelBook.ph. With free breakfast, WiFi, and two extra bed set up, we only paid PHP698 nett per person per night.

Check-in
We arrived at the resort after our Bohol Countryside Tour. The van service that we booked dropped us off directly at Veraneante in time for the afternoon check-in. During check-in, we filled out the forms and paid the pre-arranged extra beds. The entire process took about 10 minutes and we were then escorted to our cuarto.

Layout and Ambience
Veraneante Resort is a small resort with only 7 rooms or cuartos offered. Unlike most budget hotels today where the owners build up and squeeze as many rooms as possible in as little land, Veraneante is designed with separate huts nicely set within a tropical garden and adjacent to a pool.
Modernized nipa huts set within a garden gives the resort its nice ambiance
This gives the resort a charming, intimate, serene, and rustic ambiance typical of island living.

Our Room
The cuartos of Veraneante are categorized into Superior, Deluxe, Family, and Premier Rooms. All these cuartos are in duplexes resembling a modernized nipa hut. All are fitted with thatched straw roofing, large windows, sawali wall decors, parquet wood flooring, and veranda with views of the garden and the pool.
Veraneante Resort Family Room Veranda

We stayed in a Family Room that can accommodate up to six persons. The room is adequately furnished with two double-sized beds, air conditioning, wardrobe, flat-screen TV, and mini ref. At 30 square meters, the room was able to accommodate two additional extra beds and still offered comfortable space for moving around

There is also an en suite bathroom equipped with a hot and cold shower, toilet, bidet, sink, and free toiletries.

Dining
Veraneante Resort has a small restaurant called Cafe Oppe. It is an open-air restaurant with a view of the garden, the pool, and the huts. Cafe Oppe serves food at affordable prices and with delectable choices of local and international dishes.

Activities
While in the resort, veraneantes can do laps in the resort's sky-colored swimming pool, take a relaxing dip in the Jacuzzi, soak up rays for a beautiful tan by the sunbeds, or take photos in the instagenic spots of the resort.

If you're up for additional sightseeing and tours, the resort offers private tour arrangements like dolphin watching, snorkeling, and Balicasag and Virgin Island tours. If you're up for some beach fun, head to Alona Beach via the resort's free shuttle service at 5:00PM. If you want to be more adventurous in exploring Panglao or the rest of Bohol, the resort also offers motorbike rental for a day or two

Service and Experience
Although located off-the-beaten-path and does not come with a beautiful Panglao beachfront, Veraneante Resort is not less worthy of being your Bohol abode.  You'll love its beauty, coziness, tranquility, and intimacy. Moreover, the staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall, our experience at the hotel was good. We look forward to going back to Veraneante Resort escaping the hustle of city living, lazying ourselves within its serene tropical setting, enjoying a quiet afternoon dip in the pool, and satiating ourselves with the delicious food at Cafe Oppe.
