The Manor at Camp John Hay: The Ultimate Getaway in the Mountains of Cordillera

Despite the constant laments of Baguio being highly commercialized nowadays, there is no denying that the city is still a favorite destination for a lot of Juans. And when we just want to escape and have a great time with family and friends, we tend to seek out destinations that bring peace, comfort, and warmth. The Manor, nestled in a tranquil setting at 5,000 feet above sea level, surrounded by trees and beautiful views, fits the bill and is the ultimate getaway in this regard.

We stayed there in August and here's what it was like.

Location
The Manor is set within Camp John Hay. It has one of the best-rated locations in the city as the area has kept and maintained the beauty of the Baguio of old. Although situated within one of the most popular visitor attractions in the city, The Manor remains a quiet place. This is because the hotel sits on top of a hill surrounded by lush gardens and a serene pine forest.

The hotel is approximately 2.5 kilometers from Session Road, 2.6 kilometers from Mines View Park, and 2.8 kilometers from Burnham Park.

Reservation
The Manor has its own website for reservation of rooms. It is also listed in online travel agencies like Booking.com and Hotels.com. As we always do, we compare room rates online to check for the best deals. As the hotel had lean season offers for the rainy days, we booked directly with them. From the full rate of PHP7,845, we were able to get Superior Rooms for only PHP3,975 per night.

Check-in
We arrived at the hotel at around 1:45PM which was just in time for the standard check-in. As it was already the peak hours for arrivals, there was a queue at the reception and we had to wait for our turn to be able to check-in. While waiting in line we were served with their signature hot Moringa tea. This amazing drink kept us warm in the open-air lobby.

The check-in process was straightforward. Upon filling out the forms and placing a security deposit, we were directed to our room on the second level.

The Manor is a 4-storey property with 158 well-appointed rooms. The ground level contains the lobby, the cozy Piano Bar, the wood-paneled Le Chef Restaurant, the Sundry Shop, the health spa, the fitness center, the wellness studio, and the hotel's sprawling gardens. The second to fourth level contains The Manor rooms. These guest rooms are composed of Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, One Bedroom Suites, and Two Bedroom Suites.

The hotel was built to resemble a European manor. With its massive wooden beams, stone floors, and homey interiors, The Manor simulates the old world charm and elegance of mountain log cabins.

Our Room
We stayed in a Superior Room with Pine Forest ViewThe room was around 40 square meters and can accommodate a maximum of 3 adults.

Upon entering the room from the hallway, on the left side were the en suite toilet and bath, the walk-in closet, the breakfast nook, the mini bar, and the mini sink. Past these amenities was an inviting King-sized bed. The bed was complemented with comfortable pillows, fresh white sheets, high-quality duvet, and bedside tables and lampshades on either side. Across the bed were additional amenities like cable TV, working desk, cabinet, luggage rack. On one side of the room was a large window with generous views of the pine trees.

Baguio's cool climate inspires outdoor pursuits. As The Manor is located within the prime district and largely intact Camp John Hay, take advantage of this by walking or horseback riding in Camp John Hay trail to take in the sights of the highland beauty. Then proceed to the picnic area for some good outdoor meals or to Choco-Late de Batirol for merienda. You can also walk to the Mile Hi Recreation Center to go shopping in outlet stores and souvenir shops. You can visit historical sites such as the Cemetery of Negativism and the Bell House. Lastly, you can play a round of golf at the Camp John Hay Golf Club or be adventurous at Tree Top Adventure Baguio.

Service and Experience
Overall, our experience at The Manor was excellent and memorable. It pretty much has all the things a traveler would look for in a luxury mountain resort. We loved that it mixes the quintessential features of a log cabin with modern hotel amenities. The food was delightful and the staff were friendly and helpful which also set the tone for an extraordinary stay. It sure is the ultimate hotel for a Baguio escape.
